D'eslorelin is being studied in the treatment of cancer as a way to block sex hormones made by the ovaries or testicles. It belongs to the family of drugs called gonad-releasing hormone analogs. It is used for the induction of ovulation in mares. D'eslorelin binds to and activates pituitary gona releasing hormone (GnRH) receptors. Continuous, prolonged administration of gose in males results in pituitary GnRH receptor desensitization and inhibition of pituitary secretion of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and (LH), leading to a significant decline in test production; in females, prolonged administration results in a decrease in estradiol production.
Application
D'eslorelin was successfully trialed in the US and was approved for veterinary use under certain circumstances. In Europe, it was approved for use in equine assisted reproduction. It is also being trialed in humans to study its efficacy in treatment of breast cancer in women,and in treating precocious puberty and congenital adrenal hyperplasia in male and female children.
